Big G Reviews The New iPhone X

The iPhone X (ten) is named for the 10th anniversary of Apple’s iPhones. It is a premium, high- end product with the most expensive launch price in Apple’s history. It was released on November 3, 2017 with a launch price of $1,000 US.

The iPhone X uses wireless charging, has improved depth sensing dual cameras for even better selfies and travel photos, a 5.8” OLED display, no physical home button and a new Face ID unlock system which uses facial recognition to unlock the phone. You just look at your phone to unlock it. The iPhone X is the first iPhone since the iPhone 5 to have no fingerprint sensor because the iPhone X will rely on facial recognition for the same functions. The front and back are made of surgical stainless steel which improves durability as well as resists water and dust.

The iPhone X was released at the same time as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone X has a longer screen than either of the iPhone 8 models but is no wider. The iPhone X has the Super Retina HD Display while the iPhones 8 and 8 Plus have just the Retina HD Display. On the 5.8” display of the iPhone X this improvement is noticeable as compared to the 5.5” screen of the iPhone 8 Plus and the 4.7” screen of the iPhone 8. This will be especially important to those who watch videos on their phone.

The iPhone X has about a 2 hour longer battery life than either iPhone 8, and as compared to the iPhone 7.

The iPhone SE is the lightest iPhone ever made weighing in at 113 grams, while the iPhone 8 weighs 148 grams, the iPhone X weighs 174 grams, and the iPhone 8 Plus weighs 202 grams. Most people will not notice the differences in the weights of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and the iPhone X but would notice the difference if they were accustomed to the iPhone SE.

All of these new iPhones have wireless charging.

As compared to the Android options the iPhone X comes out much the same as comparing it to other iPhones. It is significantly more expensive and appeals to a premium market. It has even been described as “the prettiest phone ever” making no concession to function whatsoever. The Face ID unlock is a unique feature on the iPhone X but as a general rule the android phones that are considered direct competition have a long list of features that are absent on the iPhone X.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 6.3” screen and the LG V30 has a 6” screen and the Google 2XL has a 4.97” screen as compared to the 5.8” screen of the iPhone X. The discussion will continue about the memory required in iPhones as compared to androids but suffice to say that it appears all models have well more than sufficient memory for even the most advanced users. The android models do have only HD display as opposed to the Super Retina HD Display of the iPhone X. This may be noticeable for those who use their phones to watch videos in some cases.

In summary, the iPhone X is an iPhone designed specifically for a premium niche market of high-end, leading-edge users who will appreciate its beauty, function and cache.
